A director of a purported philanthropic Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) has been charged before a Nairobi court over alleged Sh19million fraud.
Halima Samson Mwongera alias Halima Saado is said to have committed that offense on diverse dates between August 31, 2024 and September 17, 2024 in Nairobi jointly with others already in court.
She is said to have conspired to defraud Josephine Karabu Kaberia trading as Talos Group Kenya Limited goods worth Sh19,820,000.
According to the charge sheet, the items in question include; 2,550 sacks of 25kg of Biryani rice,1550 jelly can of 10litres of cooking oil, 500 pieces of Menengai bar soaps, 550 sacks of brown sugar and 400 bales of 24kg of wheat flour allegedly belonging to school feeding initiative.
While appearing before Milimani Principal Magistrate Benmark Ekhubi yesterday, Halima denied the charges.
The court released her on a Sh1million bond or an alternative cash bail of Sh500,000.
The matter will be mentioned on November 26, 2024 for pre_trial directions and consolidation.
