Detectives based at Kilimani Police Station are holding a woman suspected to be involved in stupefying syndicate targeting revelers in high end clubs in Nairobi for drugging and stealing from a Chadian national.
The lady whose true identity is yet to be verified after sleuths attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) recovered two mismatching identity cards in her possession was seized at Hunters area in Kasarani, Nairobi.
She was found in possession of Kenyan and Ugandan identification documents.
The Kenyan identity card showed her name is Consolata Nyangai while the Ugandan one had a different name but bore the same photo.
Nyangai was nabbed after a lengthy probe launched on November 9, 2024 when a Chadian national reported that he lost his money and other valuables including a phone to a lady after a night of merrymaking.
DCI said that on the fateful day, the foreigner visited Gemini and Quiver’s clubs and retreated to his residences in Spring Gardens Apartments alongside Nyangai.
The victim is believed to have been stupefied before the suspect made away with 4,000 in dollar notes (Sh519,000), Sh10,000, a Samsung S20 and a Corn C105 phone.
A heightened manhunt then led to Nyangai’s arrest at Hunters area in Kasarani where they recovered the stolen phones that were positively identified by the victim.
“Also notable around Consolata’s base was a newly purchased 75” Samsung TV worth Sh107,000 as per the receipts, and a Ramtons cooker worth Sh55,000. The items, both which were purchased after the incident, are believed to be proceeds of crime.” The office of DCI Director Mohamed Amin said.
Two national identity cards, one Kenyan and one Ugandan, were also recovered bearing Nyangai’s images with different names.
The suspect has been escorted to Kilimani Police Stations and is set to be arraigned today, November 18, 2024.
Meanwhile, officers are investigating her true identity following the recovery of the mismatched identity cards.
