Deputy president Kithure Kindiki is the new deputy party leader at the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Kindiki was named the new deputy party leader after the UDA National Executive Committee (NEC) held a meeting today morning, where it resolved to replace former DP Rigathi Gachagua, who served as the party’s deputy leader.
While reading the resolutions, UDA chairperson Cecily Mbarire and Secretary General Hassan Omar said the decision was reached at, after the successful impeachment of Rigathi last month hence rendering him incapable of discharging his duties as deputy party leader.
“The national executive committee notes that by virtue of the resolution of the National Assembly and the vote of the Senate and by operation of Articles 75 (3) and145 (7) of the Constitution of Kenya as read together with Article 8.2.19 of the UDA Party Constitution, H.E. Rigathi Gachagua is unable to perform the duties of the office of Deputy Party Leader and subsequently ceases to hold office as deputy party leader. The National Executive Committee now resolves to designate H.E. Prof. Kithure Kindiki, EGH as the deputy party leader of the United Democratic Alliance Party effective immediately.” UDA party national chairperson Cecily Mbarire said.
The UDA officials gave the incoming deputy party leader assurance saying his unmatched skills will help in taking the party forward.
Kindiki said he is ready to serve with loyalty adding that the party will work with other institutions to solve issues affecting not only the party but the country.
“I want to assure you of my unwavering party to the ideals that our party stands for. I will work with all the organs established under our party constitution for the good and better performance of our party.” The DP said.
Kindiki said he is assuming the role of deputy party leader at a time when the country is at a crossroads, adding that UDA stands for unity for all Kenyans regardless of their background.
“The unity of Kenya is not a threat to the segments that constitute Kenya.”
Gachagua was impeached by the National Assembly on October 8, a decision that was upheld by the Senate on October 17, 2024.
