The Director of Criminal Investigations has been allowed to hold two suspects who are being probed for impersonating Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo.
The Suspects Denis Kipchumba and Pikei Winstone are said to have created a WhatsApp group and used the same to solicit money from members of the public by pretending that they were in a position to offer them employment.
Consequently, they swindled money from members of the public using the name of PS Omollo.
They will now stay in custody for four days.
They were detained by Milimani Principal Magistrate Dolphina Alego who allowed application by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to have them detained to conclude investigations into personation claims.
The two are said to have been using the said WhatsApp group to request for some ‘token’ from members of the public majorly from Luo Nyanza pretending they could facilitate them secure some government Jobs.
When PS Raymond Omollo received complaints from the public about the WhatsApp group, he says that he was surprised because he didn’t have such WhatsApp page and no day he had created a page to try and fetch cash from members of the public.
The two suspects were arrested on November 2, 2024 at Subaru field in the Outcast of Eldoret Town.
In that fake account, they are said to have been using a PS Omollo’s picture.
In pleading with the court to allow the application, Corporal of Police Evans Onsomo informed the court that the said the suspects are flight risk since it has them a week to smoke them out from their hide out.
The court allowed the application and ordered the suspects to be detained at Capitol Hill Police station until November 8, 2024.
