A serving Kenya Defence Forces(KDF) officer is facing charges of robbery with violence at Makadara Law Courts.
Officer Eddy Opondo together with his colleagues Christian Mbeva, Garvin Otieno and Alex Kaia today appeared before Principal Magistrate Carolyne Mugo and denied the charges.
They are said to have assaulted politician George Jonathan Maara on October 20,2024 at Kigwa Road Ridgeways, Nairobi county.
They are said to have robbed the politician of an Oppo mobile phone valued at Sh50,000 and a car ignition keys and at the time of that robbery, they used actual violence to him.
Opondo is facing a second count of handling stolen goods contrary to the law.
He is charged that on October 21,2024 at Ridgeways area within Nairobi, in the course of that theft dishonestly retained the OPPO mobile phone valued at Sh50,000 the property of Maara knowing it was stolen.
They were released on a bond of Sh500,000 with a surety of a similar amount each.
The case will be mentioned on January 28, 2025 before hearing starts on April 29, 2025.
Maara vied for the Senate position in Kiambu County last year with Jubilee Party ticket.
It is said that the four attacked him near his home at Ridgeways after he was informed by his watchman that there was a car accident at a road nearby.
When he arrived there, he started taking pictures of that vehicle and that’s when the officer and his friends attacked him.
He was injured to an extent he went to the hospital for treatment and later reported the matter to Muthaiga Police Station.
The former Senatorial aspirant is seeking government intervention to ensure that Kigwa Road is repaired as many accidents have occurred in that area.
The three other accused persons are not officers but his colleagues.
