President William Ruto las led the country in mourning the late Lamu Deputy Governor Raphael Munyua Ndung’u who passed away at a city hospital today.
In a statement on X today, Ruto remembered Ndung’u as a dedicated leader who prioritized the needs of his constituents.
“I am saddened by the news of the passing away of the Deputy Governor of Lamu County Raphael Munyua Ndung’u. He was a progressive leader who worked tirelessly for the greater good of the people of Lamu.” President Ruto said.
The President also extended his condolences to the Deputy governor’s family and friends.
“Our love and prayers to the family, friends and the people of Lamu County at this sad moment. Rest in Peace.” He said.
On his part, the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua described the late DG as a highly dedicated and development oriented person.
“It is with profound sadness that I have received the news of the passing on of Lamu County Deputy governor, Raphael Munyua Ndung’u. A highly dedicated, d development- oriented person, DG Munyua served the People of Lamu with utmost dedication, diligence, and professionalism. My thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and the People of Lamu County. May God grant you strength and comfort.” The DP said.
Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, similarly expressed his condolences, sharing his reflections on the late Deputy Governor’s contributions to the people of Lamu.
“Our sincere condolences to the great people of Lamu County following the passing on of the Lamu County Deputy Governor Hon Raphael Munyua Ndung’u who has not been feeling well for some time,” he said.
“Our thoughts are with the Family. We are African and Africa is our Business.”.
Ndung’u passed away while undergoing treatment at Nairobi Hospital on Friday. His brother confirmed the incident but did not reveal the deceased’s exact cause of death.
Additional reports from the Standard however indicate that Ndung’u passed away after a prolonged battle with brain tuberculosis.
