The acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gilbert Masengelli is today expected to present himself before Milimani law courts after the High Court ordered him to physically and personally appear in court today to explain why he should not be committed to civil jail over contempt of court charges.
The order was issued on Tuesday this week after Masengeli failed to appear in court to explain the whereabouts of three missing persons who were abducted in Kitengela by the people believed to be police officers.
The three men, Jamil Longton Hashim, his brother Aslam Longton, and activist Bob Michemi Njagi, were abducted on 19th August 2024.
Milimani Law courts justice Lawrence Mugambi, while giving the orders, said that Masengeli has defied court orders by failed to comply with court orders.
“The IG failed to obey court orders, and I therefore order him to appear in court in person to eject the contempt before this case continues.” Orders justice Mugambi.
The court was told that Masengeli failed to appear in court because he was out of the office for official duties.
The state counsel told the court that the relatives have made a report at Kitengela police station.
