Uganda police force has refuted claims of shooting and injuring opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi famously known as Bobi Wine.
The police force in a statement on twitter said Bobi Wine stumbled while getting into his car and sustained an injury which his team claims is from a gunshot.
UPF explained that Bobi Wine had on Tuesday attended a thanksgiving ceremony staged by Lawyer George Musisi, in Bulindo, Kiira Municipality, Wakiso District.
The ceremony was concluded peacefully and Bobi Wine left the venue where he and his team moved out of their cars and embarked on a procession up to Bulindo town.
The Police said they had advised against the procession.
They added that despite its guidance, Bobi Wine insisted on proceeding and closing the road, leading to police intervention to prevent the procession.
“During the ensuing altercation, it is alleged that he sustained injuries. Police officers on site claim he stumbled while getting into his vehicle, causing the injury, whereas Hon Kyagulanyi and his team assert that he was shot.” UPF wrote on X.
The UPF said an investigation will be conducted to clarify the facts.
The Force stated that Bobi Wine had since been taken to Najaeem Medical Centre in Bulindo for first aid.
“The police will investigate the alleged shooting and any related incidents.” They added.
