Controversial social media influencer Scophine Aoko Otieno, popularly known as Maverick Aoko has been released on a Sh100,000 cash bail over allegations of publishing false information on her X, formerly Twitter account.
Milimani Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi freed Aoko on an alternative personal bond of Sh200,000 after ruling that the prosecution failed to provide compelling reasons to deny her bail pending trial.
Aoko denied three charges of cyber harassment, fraudulent use of electronic data, and publishing false information about one Beth Wambui Mbuitu on X levelled against her by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP).
Additionally, she is accused of posting a tweet that was described as malicious, false, and well-planned to harm on the complainant’s reputation.
The court heard that the social media influencer committed the offences on August 3, 2024, at an unknown place within the Republic of Kenya.
The case will be mentioned on September 2, 2024 for pretrial hearing.
