Temporary reprieve from Meru governor Mwangaza as court stop MCAs from debating her ouster motion
Embattled Meru governor Kawira Mwangaza has realised temporary relief after the Meru High Court stopped Members of the Meru County Assembly (MCAs) from debating impeachment motion against her which was slated for today, July 25, 2024.
High Court judge justice Linus Kassan issued the ruling yesterday pending a decision on a case filed by Mwangaza challenging the impeachment process.
Governor Mwangaza sought to prevent the local MCAs from pursuing her impeachment, arguing that the motion is flawed and driven by her political opponents.
The MCAs have accused Mwangaza of gross violations of the Constitution, national and county laws, and alleged abuse of office.
Members of the Meru County Assembly (MCA) tabled a notice of motion to impeach governor Kawira.
The notice of motion was moved by nominated MCA and Deputy Majority Leader Zipporah Kinya on grounds of misuse of office and public funds.
In her motion, Kinya has listed numerous specific allegations against Kawira, including illegal appointments and dismissals, financial misconduct, and misleading the public.
The governor is accused of revoking the appointment of CPA Virginia Kawira Miriti as Secretary/CEO of the Meru County Public Service Board without proper authorization and in contravention of the law.
