Businesses and normal operations have today been paralysed within the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) as pockets of protests spread out to other towns by peaceful demonstrators agitating for better governance and accountability on the part of government.
At the same time, police warned of receiving credible intelligence of plans to have goons infiltrate peaceful picketers and cause mayhem.
However, the acting Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja urged protesters to cooperate with the police to ensure their safety and that of all Kenyans in general is taken care of.
The protests, branded “Rage and Courage” and trending under the hashtags #OccupyEverywhere and #RutoMustGo, aim to demand accountability from Kenyan leaders and combat corruption.
In Nairobi, streets were deserted, and businesses remain closed as at 9 am amid a heavy police presence, including officers in both uniform and civilian attire.
Protesters have barricaded a section of Moi Avenue near Kencom in Nairobi Central Business District.
Major roads leading to Parliament, City Hall, and the Supreme Court have been barricaded by anti-riot police.

Police have however swung into action and chased away the protesters using tear gas.
The barricades are still there.
Anti-riot police are combing various streets of the town to ensure law and order.
In Kitengela, anti-government protesters have blocked the Nairobi-Namanga Road, with businesses in the town remaining closed.
