At least twelve people have been confirmed dead while several others have been evacuated to various hospitals for treatment after two separate tragic road accidents occurred along the Garissa-Mwingi road within the Katumba Trading Center area and in Maragua, Murang’a county.
In the first incident, at least seven people died on the spot along Garissa-Mwingi road in a road carnage involving a passenger bus and another unidentified vehicle.
The incident occurred at 1:30 am today.
According to preliminary police findings, Hassan Bura was driving a Nissan UD bus, registration number KCZ 604A, belonging to Al-Mukaram Bus Service Company when the accident occurred.
At the time, the bus had 50 passengers on board and it was traveling from Garissa towards Nairobi.
While attempting to overtake an unidentified vehicle that did not stop after the accident, Bura tried to return to his lane to avoid a head-on collision.
In the process, the bus rammed on a stationary Mercedes-Benz trailer, registration number KBW 788H/ZG 0936, which was stalled on the road due to a mechanical breakdown.
The trailer was ferrying gypsum from Garissa.
Meanwhile, traffic police officers are currently at the scene, and further details will be provided as the investigation continues.

Locals protested the accident and blamed speeding for the same.
