The Cooperative Bank of Kenya Limited has opened a new branch in Luanda town, Vihiga county as it seeks to boost its physical presence and a commanding lead as the financial institution of choice in the country.
The new branch is among the fifteen earmarked for opening this year.
“A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for the grand opening of our Co-op Bank branch in Luanda. The ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the beginning of a new chapter in our journey to serve you better.” The bank said through a post on their official X handle, formerly Twitter.
The official opening was presided over by former National Assembly Speaker Kenneth Marende assisted by bank’s Head Branch Banking Peter Kirugu.
Others present were Co-op Bank Western region regional Manager Paul Chianda and Luanda Branch Manager Patrick Ndumbi.
In March this year, the tier 1 commercial lender announced plans to solidify its commanding foothold in the country and lined up to unveil fifteen new branches this year including the newly opned Luanda Branch.
The planned expansion will see the bank improve on its physical presence and number of outlets across the country thus brining financial services closer to the people.
The 15 branches will add to the eight opened last year and five in 2022.
As of September 2023, Co-op Bank had 193 branches countrywide.
Already, Co-op Bank has opened one branch in Ugunja town in Siaya county and will this month be opening another one in Imaara Shopping Mall in Nairobi along the Mombasa Road at the entrance to Nairobi’s Imara Daima estate.
