Ten people died and two others were seriously injured in an accident involving a matatu and a lorry in Mai Mahiu town after a trailer rammed into a matatu they were traveling in at the VIP area in Naivasha along Mai Mahiu-Nairobi road, Nakuru county.
According to eye witnesses, the lorry lost its brakes just a few metres from the town and rammed a MUNA Sacco matatu from behind.
Naivasha OCPD Samuel Kirui confirmed the incident saying nine people died on spot while one succumbed on the way to Kijabe Hospital.
The lorry that was ferrying construction materials is said to have been coming from Nairobi and was headed to Mai Mahiu town.
Police officers moved in swiftly to clear the remains of the crash which occurred less than a kilometre from Mai Mahiu Police station.
Four other vehicles that were parked by the road were damaged in the accident and were towed to the station.
