Homa Bay police have nabbed crude weapons which were allegedly intended to be used in causing violence during a voters’ registration mobilization meeting convened by Governor Cyprian Awiti.
According to Homa Bay Police Commander John Omusanga, the weapons were intercepted a few kilometers to the venue.
He confirmed that a prominent politician from the region is involved in the transportation of the crude weapons which included rungus and swords.
“The weapons were nabbed about 30 minutes before the kick-off of the meeting called by the Governor, “he said.
The police boss said they have arrested a 31-year old driver of the probox who is currently being detained at Homa Bay police station.
“The intelligence information we have received is that these weapons were going to be used to cause chaos during the meeting. We suspected there is a prominent politician who is behind this mischief,” Omusanga said.
As the country prepares for the General Election, he warned local politicians against causing chaos in the county.
“We are not going to give politicians any room to cause violence in this county as the elections approach,” he said.
Awiti together with a section of area politicians were expected to discuss on how they can organize for a massive voter registration and mobilization campaign.
