The outspoken Kapseret Member of Parliament (MP) Oscar Sudi has hit back at United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Cleophas Malala over his warning on engagement in campaign activities.
Sudi veiled his remarks on his X handle minutes after the SG issued a statement to the press.
The legislator dismissed Malala’s statement saying he cannot fit the caliber of former Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju.
“Elevated MCA suffering from illusory superiority, thinking he matches Raphael Tuju’s caliber.” Sudi wrote on his handle.
Early morning today after returning from China, Malala criticized Sudi and some Cabinet Secretaries over their engagement in political activities terming it as against the law for the CSs.
Malala ordered Nyeri governor Mutahi Kahiga, Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, and Githunguri’s Gathoni Wa Muchomba to cease their attacks on the party leadership including the presidency, or have disciplinary action taken against them.
“It is in my attention that some Cabinet Secretaries have been involving themselves in political activities, contrary to the law which requires them to remain apolitical.” Malala stated.
Malala went on to say should the Cabinet Secretaries feel the need to engage in politics actively, they must resign from the public offices they hold insisting that their focus should be on serving the people of Kenya at all times.
He termed their recent conduct as not only undermining the party’s unity but also disrespects the leadership that they pledged to serve.
The SG issued a stern warning saying persistent behaviour would attract disciplinary actions against them.
“Let this be a stern warning, desist from such actions with immediate effect. Should this behaviour persist, the party will take disciplinary actions against you.” He said.
The remarks by Malala come as reports indicate division amongst Rift alley leaders on supporting deputy president Rigathi Gachagua.
CS Murkomen was among Cabinet Secretaries who accompanied Gachagua to Uasin Gishu over the weekend, where the leaders rallied support for Gachagua.
On the other hand, CS Kuria has openly defied the second-in-command even though he maintains that the DP is his good friend and boss.
On his part, Nyeri governor Mutahi Kahiga sanctioned Malala’s ouster.
In a statement on Facebook today, May 29, 2024, Kahiga called for Malala’s dismissal in the next UDA polls. The outspoken county boss termed the former Kakamega Senator unfit to hold that position.
“I have seen the Malala press statement and in response I say; Ag SG Malala in UDA is like a square peg in a round hole. He doesn’t fit. I have said it before and I repeat, We must get rid of him in the coming UDA elections.” Governor Kahiga said.
