A Kisumu based family in Dirubi villabe, Nyakach Sub County is reeling from a double tragedy after an 18-year-old boy killed his uncle after he labeled him a witch before an irate mob descended on his dad, Valentine Ochieng and lynched him yesterday.
The boy has since been arrested and is in police custody awaiting arraignment today.
According to preliminary police findings, at the time of the incident, the boy was with his father when the uncle confronted them and reportedly called his father a witch.
The boy is said to have hit his uncle on the head using a wooded plank yesterday inflicting a life-threatening injury.
He was rushed to Nyabondo Mission Hospital before being transferred to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) where he was pronounced dead.
Consequently, an irate mob descended on the boy’s father as he returned from the police station where he went to report the matter following his brother’s death.
The mob, which had set ablaze four houses in his compound, beat him to death.
“When he arrived at his home, he found angry villagers torching his home and descended on him with beatings.” An investigation police report reads in part.
Police retrieved the victim’s partially burnt body and moved it to Pap Onditi Sub County Hospital mortuary.
