Survivors of yesterday’s tragic accident involving Kenyatta University bus and a truck that claimed eleven lives at Maungu in Voi along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway have been airlifted to Niarobi for more specialised treatment.
The casualties include both students and staff.
Today, the University Vice Chancellor Professor Paul Wainaina visited the Moi County Referral Hospital in Voi to check on the status of the students and staff involved in the accident.
Air ambulances were at the Ikanga airstrip in Voi, where patients in critical conditions were moved to other facilities.
A number of casualties were moved to a hospital in Voi, while others were moved to Avenue Hospital, Parklands Nairobi.
The university also revealed that the bodies of fatalities will be moved to the Kenyatta University Funeral Home.
Wainaina visited the injured students receiving treatment at the Moi County Referral Hospital.
The university has also dispatched a team of doctors, medical personnel, security officers and wellness officers to Voi.
The university bus collided with a truck in Maungu where ten students died on the spot.
The students and other staff members on board the bus were heading to Mombasa for an academic trip.
So far eleven people have been confirmed dead, while 21 suffered serious injuries, and four had minor injuries.
