The Tanzanian government has distanced itself from claims it is working with the National Super Alliance to set up a parallel tallying centre in the country.
Spokesman Hassan Abbas on Monday said it is wrong to link their country to Kenya’s elections.
“The attempt to link the peace-loving government of Tanzania with involvement in neighbours’ elections is a mistake beyond reality.”
This came amid reports that Raila Odinga’s coalition has established a tallying centre in Kigamboni area, Tanzania.
Thirdway Alliance presidential candidate Ekuru Aukot said such a move would be an affront to the constitution and Kenya’s sovereignty.
“I am worried about NASA’s plans to set up a parallel tallying centre in Tanzania. It offends our constitution and undermines our sovereignty,” said Abbas.
There are unconfirmed reports that the Opposition’s move has sparked a diplomatic row between the two countries.
It has been said that because of this, powerful people in the government had beenpushing the Tanzanian government to publicly declare their stand on the matter.
