Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja has cautioned Nairobians and called them to be vigilant of unscrupulous staff and imposters pretending to aid and bypass revenue collection channels.
He stated that the county is operating with no form of cash payment for all the services adding that any person asking for payment to be done outside the system be reported.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (Eacc) opened a probe on revenue diversion in City Hall after arresting a revenue clerk and an intern accused of bribery and producing fake receipts.
“Let Nairobians be informed that we do not accept any CASH payment for our services. If any of my revenue team members ask for payment in cash or purports to be able to assist outside of the system that we have put in place for Revenue collection please report them to 020 7247047 or send an email to governor@nairobi.go.ke and we will take immediate action.” Sakaja stated.
He added that the county will commence enforcement in February.
“No member of staff is allowed to enforce in the month of January as we are using this month to allow for transition to the Unified Business Permit (UBP) regime.” He added.
This comes hours after two officials of the county were yesterday arraigned in court after they were yesterday apprehended by officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (Eacc.) over a scheme to divert parking revenue of the county.
The two, Daniel Odidi Ganje; the Officer-In-Charge of the Data Office at St. Peter Cleavers Revenue offices in Starehe Sub-County, and John Gachagua Mburu, a
Mt. Kenya University Student attached at the said Revenue Offices who is an
Intern were arrested after allegations stemmed of them of redirecting county revenue.
Odidi and Mburu reportedly manipulated the Nairobi Revenue Services portal to falsely show full payment of fees.
The scheme involved asking a client, who came to pay annual parking fees for his commercial vehicles totaling Sh45,000, to transfer the amount to one of the officer’s private bank accounts.
In return, the two had promised a reduced payment than the set.
To prove the feasibility of this scam, the suspects entered the complainant’s vehicle registration details into the revenue portal, which then falsely indicated full payment.
The Nairobi City County Government (NCCG) operates a NO CASH policy in revenue collection. Customers are advised to make their payments through the Nairobi City County Government Revenue collection accounts once they obtain their invoices. Customers may pay using Cooperative Bank under the account name Nairobi City County Revenue Collection. Account number 01141709410000 and Equity Bank under account name Nairobi City County Revenue Collection. Account number 1770279910476.
Nairobians have also been advised to visit the Nairobi Pay services Portal (www.nairobiservices.go.ke), City Hall Annex customer service Centre offices, or any Sub-county finance offices for further clarification.
