President William Ruto has ordered immediate eviction of grabbers of public land in Kitale.
The Head of State issued the decree yesterday during his tour of the newly constructed Masinde Muliro Market.
President Ruto claimed that some cartels have grabbed government land meant for the Kenya prisons in that area thus scuttling plans to relocate the prison located in Kitale.
“There are some people who have grabbed that land. I want to give them a notice from Kitale to leave that land immediately.” The president said.
He pointed out that the land where Kitale prisons currently sits should be meant for the construction of a city hence its relocation is inevitable, directing the perpetrators to visit the ministry of land and forfeit the grabbed parcels.
The head of state further emphasized his stance on dealing firmly with corruption in the country, vowing to stop at nothing until corruption is rooted out of the country.
His sentiments come in the wake of a land row pitting occupants against the family of former politician Gerishon Kirima, in Nairobi’s Njiru area.
In October last year, Ruto stressed that the government will not tolerate impunity with regard to public land.
“What we must get rid of in the whole of this is impunity. We cannot allow impunity in Kenya. We all must play by the rules, we are all equal before the law and so the people who are willing to negotiate should do so and have a settlement.” He added.
