Police officers in Vihiga county have launched manhunt for a gang of three who stabbed and injured an Officer Commanding Station (OCS) attached to Vihiga Police Station before snatching his pistol.
Vihiga police commander said the senior police officer was on a patrol in his area when the gang attacked him yesterday morning at around Maragoli plaza.
The OCS was stabbed in the head and shoulder while struggling with the attackers before robbing him his Jericho pistol and fleeing to unknown destination.
According to the commander, the attackers seemed to have marked the movements of the OCS with the pistol which was loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition, his two mobile phones and other personal items.
He added that they suspect the attackers seemed to have been familiar to the officer.
“The attackers seemed to have been familiar with the officer and may have been following him from a distant before attacking him while he was patrolling the area.” He said.
He was rescued and taken to Mungoma Private Hospital for medication where he was later transferred to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and referral hospital in Kisumu.
Scans at the hospital showed the officer was out of danger and was later discharged.
Investigations are on to arrest the suspects may use the firearm to conduct serious crimes especially during this festive season.
“Investigations are on to arrest the three because we know they will use the weapon to commit crimes.” He added.
This comes a day after former minister Noah Wekesa lost his firearm, pistol and other valuables at his farm in Kitale Trans Nzoia County after he was raided by suspected thugs.
He also lost other electronic goods during the raid by unknown number of robbers.
