Five youths were yesterday arrested in Mombasa over suspected involvement in criminal activities after they posted on social media bragging about their illicit activities saying Kenyans ought to be carrying valuable items
The five include Vincent Ochieng’, Shadrack Ochieng’, Felix Otieno, Salim Ali, and Shafi Yusuf, and were operating the Sargoi area as an organized crime group.
They are accused of bragging on their social media handle, TikTok about their involvement in criminal activities.
“Police officers from the Central Police Station carried out an intelligence-led operation in Sargoi areas and managed to arrest the five suspects, who are believed to be gang members.” A police source told The Informer Media Group.
The police recovered several items during the arrest including a navy blue jacket that was captured in the video they recorded on TikTok.
They also recovered five phones which included three iPhones, a Samsung, and a Memojo model.
The officers also seized a bluetooth headset from the crime scene.
The five have been questioned and will remain in police custody pending further investigations before being arraigned in court.
This comes three days after five teenagers were arrested in the Nyali suburbs of Mombasa in connection to a series of robberies.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations DCI got the five after saving one of the gang members from a rowdy public that had almost lynched him.
In a statement, the DCI indicated that the 19-year-old who was saved from the mob had been involved in several crime busters in Mtwapa and Kadzandani area.
