The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the disruption of traffic along the Thika Garissa Road amid raging floods with the ongoing El Nino rains.
In their update, KeNHA said that the right side of the road has been washed away by the floods which have overwhelmed the culverts along the area which covers approximately 14 kilometers from Bangali town.
Motorists using the road have been asked to temporarily halt their journeys until the rainwater subsides adding that their staff are on site to restore traffic passage.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority notifies the public that traffic flow along the Thika – Garissa Road (A3) has been affected by floods at Arer, approximately 41 km from Bangali Town. Motorists are advised to exercise patience and to allow water levels to subside before proceeding with their journey. KeNHA Staff are on-site to help restore traffic passage through the affected Road section.” KeNHA said.
The ongoing El Nino rains have caused a lot of flooding on the roads especially in the North Eastern parts of the country and some parts of Mombasa County.
A recent update by the authority also indicated that the Isiolo-Merille road was impassable due to flooding and heavy siltation.
Two weeks ago, they sent a statement to newsrooms warning motorists from using the said road.
Yesterday, KeNHA also announced the closure of thirty Kilometres of the Garissa-Dadaab road and sixty kilometers from Modika town.
