KCSE invigilator sliced to death by helicopter blade while picking exam papers in Garissa
A teacher was yesterday sliced to death after being hit by helicopter propeller of chopper registration number 5Y-HNB while picking Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam papers in Ijara, Garissa county.
He was an invigilator in the ongoing exams.
He had just picked airlifted exam papers of the day at the Deputy County Commissioner’s office when the incident occurred.
Confirming the incident, Garissa County Commissioner Solomon Chesuti said the teacher was near the helicopter when it was taking off and it was then that she was hit by the propellers.
This comes hours after two other chopper accidents happened yesterday in the neighbouring Wajir county.
At least three people were injured from the crushes.
The included a pilot and two officials who were escorting examination materials from Wajir to Arbajahan in the same area.
The chopper crashed less than a minute after taking off.
The cause of the crash of the chopper whose registration was 5Y-SDL is yet to be established.
Images from the of crush showed the chopper badly damaged.
The victims who were on board were evacuated and rushed to hospital. Police said they were in stable condition.
“We are yet to know the cause of the crash but the victims are in hospital in stable.” An official aware of the incident.
A team of experts visited the scene as part of the probe into the crash.
Later the examination materials were loaded onto a different chopper and flown to the centres albeit late.
This is the fourth crash to happen in less than two weeks all involving KDF helicopter.
On November 9, two Kenya Defence Forces pilots were admitted to hospital after their chopper crashed in the Kisamis area, Kajiado West.
This is after a Kenya Air Force, Fennec helicopter hit a power cable as it flew to Nairobi.
Officials said the incident happened on November 9 evening and was kept under the radar.
The chopper was badly damaged after the crash as military officials rushed to the scene to secure it.
