United Kingdom (UK) Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has appointed his predecessor David Cameron as the new Foreign Secretary in a latest cabinet reshuffle.
He replaces James Cleverly, who became home secretary after pm Sunak sacked Suella Braverman.
The Former Prime minister who was given the role while in number 10 gladly accepted the offer from Rishi Sunak despite having disagreed with some individual decisions by his successor.
Speaking to broadcasters, Lord Cameron said it is not usual to bring back an ex-Prime Minister but he believes in public service and that he has useful experience that he brings to the table.
Cameron said his new boss is a strong and capable prime minister showing exemplary leadership skills in difficult times.
He said he will help deliver the security and prosperity that the UK needs.
“Though I may have disagreed with some individual decisions, it is clear to me that Rishi Sunak is a strong and capable Prime Minister, who is showing exemplary leadership at a difficult time. want to help him to deliver the security and prosperity our country needs and be part of the strongest possible team that serves the United Kingdom and that can be presented to the country when the General Election is held. I believe in public service.” Cameron stated.
The former party leader is no longer an elected politician as he stood down as an MP in 2016, having called the Brexit referendum and his campaign to remain in the European Union losing the vote.
The government confirmed he would enter the House of Lords as a life peer which would give him an opportunity to some as a minister again.
Posting on his social media, Sunak said he has built a team that will help bring the necessary changes in the country.
“Today we have built a united team that will help deliver the necessary changes the country needs.
Professionalism, integrity, and experience are the team that will be bold in making the right decisions for our great country.” Sunak said.
In other Key changes by Sunak, Steve Barclay took Therese Coffey’s job as the environment secretary and Victoria Atkins became the health secretary.
The former Transport Minister Richard Holden became Tory party chairman taking over from Greg Hands.
The other cabinet members remained in their posts including Chancellor Jeremy Hunt, defence secretary Grant Shapps, and education secretary Gillian Keegan.
