Nairobi governor Sakaja order arrest of private developer for blocking drainage along General Mathenge Road
The Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja has ordered the arrest of a private developer and architecture along General Mathenge Road after they allegedly blocked the drainage system where run off water caused havoc following heavy downpour.
Sakaja has said that the construction at the said site has been stopped by the County until they comply with the approvals from the county.
He added that the county had issued amendments allowing drainage but the developer was ignored and now motorists are suffering during the heavy downpour that is ongoing.
“The Construction has been stopped and I have ordered the immediate arrest of the developer the architect and everyone involved in that illegal construction. The construction has been stopped until they comply with the Law because they are destroying our roads, and people’s vehicles.” Sakaja said.
“We told the developer around April this year to make amendments because the approval that had been given had drainage to the main drain.” He added.
Further, the governor instructed me to be served with a report by the County Secretary with names of the County Officers who approved the proceeding of the development.
“I have also asked the County Secretary to give me a report of the officers of the county who allowed the illegal construction processed because we cannot allow impunity from here.” He added.
He added that the environmental officers are working hard to ensure the water is well drained from the road.
Sakaja also called on Nairobians to stop illegal dumping saying it is what has been blocking the drainage systems.
While commenting on the flooding of General Mathenge Drive, Chief Officer Disaster Management and Management Bramwell Simiyu said the county engineers are working round the clock to ensure the issue is sorted.
