EACC summon National Assembly Majority Whip Sylvanus Osoro over bribe taking confession utterances
Beleaguered South Mugirango Member of Parliament who doubles as the National Assembly Majority Whip Sylvanus Osoro has been summoned by the anti-graft body over bribe taking confession remarks he recently made at a political event in Bomet.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (Eacc) now wants Osoro to shed light on the remarks where he claimed he receives bribes from fellow MPs.
Osoro made the utterances on October 29, during the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) event organized by Bomet Women Representative Linet Chepkorir, popularly known as Toto.
These allegations, if substantiated, would not only expose the rot eating into the marrow of Kenya’s political system but also cast a gloomy shadow on the integrity of its elected representatives.
During an event in Bomet, Osoro openly boasted about his financial prowess. He insinuated that he would compensate his constituents for their silence and favors, a statement that has since stirred a hornet’s nest.
He claimed to have been in parliament for a considerable period, enough to accumulate substantial wealth.
His position as the Majority Whip in parliament, he said, often sees other MPs leave money in his office before their official trips abroad, a revelation that has left many dumbfounded.
Eacc deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mohamud Abdi ordered Osoro to present himself at the state agency’s headquarters, on November 6, 2023 at 9 am to record a statement on the same.
“The Commission notes that these allegations constitute serious ethical issues and if true would amount to a serious breach of the integrity and ethical requirements governing the conduct of State officers as laid out under Chapter Six of the Constitution and the Leadership and Integrity Act, 2012.” Abdi noted.
This incident has drawn the attention of the anti-graft body which views these allegations as serious ethical issues.
The allegations against Osoro underscore the need for stronger measures to combat corruption.
