President Ruto commission tarmacking of Bamburi, Mwakirunge, Kaloleni Road in Mombasa
The residents of Bamburi and Kaloleni in Mombasa county have a sigh of relief after president William Ruto launched the upgrading of the 33 Kilometer Bamburi, Mwakirunge, Kaloleni Road to bitumen standards yesterday.
As he embarked on a weeklong development tour in the Coastal region yesterday, the president kicked off his stay at the Coast by officiating the upgrading to bitumen standard and performance based routine maintenance of the road.
He noted that government is committed to enhancing the country’s reputation on the global stage.
He added that the move has put the country at an advantageous point that has boosted tourism and attracted foreign investment in the country.
“Today Kenya is respected across the globe because we have ensured our reputation is elevated.” President Ruto noted.
Among the leaders present were; Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa (Culture and Heritage), Kipchumba Murkomen (Road and Transport), Salim Mvurya (Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs), Mombasa governor Abdullswamad Nassir, MPs Kenga Mupe (Rabai), Rashid Bedzimba (Kisauni), Mohamed Ali (Nyali) and Machele Soud (Mvita) among others.
On his part, Murkomen decried the challenges the government is facing to clear pending bills owed to contractors but exuded appreciation that local and foreign contractors are continuing with the works.
“Despite the challenges we have with pending bills in the roads sector, we appreciate our contractors who are working hard to build our roads. We are working out a plan to ensure that we progressively clear our bills.” Murkomen said.
However, some of the road construction works have since stalled.
