Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has called for diversification of western region economic activities away from cane farming to cushion them from adverse weather changes.
Speaking during the inspection tour of Nzoia Sugar factory in Bungoma county Mudavadi, emphasiSed the need for having different agricultural projects that would earn the residents’ income in times of calamities.
Nzoia Sugar factory is one of the state owned millers whose revival has not borne fruits over the years, something the President was critical about.
On his part, president William Ruto warned that it will not be business as usual to keep bailing out non profitable companies at the expense of the taxpayers. He further warned sugar barons of dire consequences should they stay in the way of the government’s efforts in reviving the fallen sugar industry.
