The president William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza Alliamce has once again humbled the opposition leader Raila Odinga after salvaging Siaya Deputy Governor William Odul from impeachment push by the Azimio led wing at Senate plenary this evening.
The resounding voting affirms absolute control of both Houses, National Assembly and Senate by the Kenya Kwanza allied team against the Azimio One Kenya Coalition brigade whose numbers have been significantly dwarfed spelling doom in their future quest to successfully push any legislative agenda in future.
Oduol has survived impeachment after a majority of Senators voted against the bid to remove him from office.
Twenty-seven Senators voted against the two grounds that the Senate Special Committee probing his impeachment by the Siaya County Assembly had found to have been proven and substantiated.
16 Senators, majorly from the Azimio side, voted to remove Oduol from office.
Effectively, Siaya governor James Orengo, a close ally of Raila and that of Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga will face stiff opposition within his administration led by Oduol who is now enjoying support from the government wing.
In a similar fashion, the Kenya Kwanza Members of Parliament voted successfully for the controversial Bill 2023 which was assented to by president Ruto today at State House.
“The net effect of this vote is that pursuant to Article 181 of the Constitution, Section 33(8) of the County Government Act and Standing Order 87 of the Senate Standing Orders, the Senate has failed to remove from office by impeachment William Oduol, the Deputy Governor of Siaya County. The Deputy Governor accordingly continues to hold office.” Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has ruled.
The 11-member Senate Special Committee that was probing the impeachment of Oduol recommended his removal from office on allegations of gross violation of the Constitution and abuse of office.
The special committee found that the charge against the Deputy Governor on Gross Violation of the Constitution and other Laws, on the allegation of Interference with the Procurement Process through Acts of Bid- Rigging was substantiated.
The deputy governor was also found culpable on the charge of abuse of office and gross misconduct on the allegation of misleading the public by giving false information.
