The former leader of the proscribed criminal mungiki sect and former Laikipia Senatorial aspirant Maina Njenga has this evening been released on a free bond.
Njenga had presented himself at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters along Kiambu Road on a day that witnessed dramatic scenes as anti-riot police engaged his highly charged supporters who turned DCI main gate into a choir playing ground.
Before his release, Njennga was whisked away aboard speeding convoy of police vehicles to unknown destination.
Azimio One Kenya Coalition leaders came in a show of solidarity among them his lawyer George Wajackoya, Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, Eugene Wamalwa, and former Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria.
At some point, police officers were forced to lobe teargas canisters to disperse the surging crowd at DCI headquarters turning the busy route into an epicenter of chaos.
