Canada has diplomatically slammed public pronouncement by Kenya’s Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua’s tweet about existing massive job openings in Ottawa terming it as hogwash.
Canadian authorities cautioned the public against falling victim of alleged special programs being circulated online purporting to welcome Kenyan immigrants to the North American country terming them as fake.
Mutua had made a public post that Kenyans can take up employment opportunities in the north American country.
However, in a quick rejoinder, Canada’s Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) department labeled the communication by Mutua, as “disinformation.”
“Disinformation is circulating, suggesting that special programs are welcoming Kenyan immigrants. This is false, and the immigration programs referenced do not exist.” A Twitter post by IRCC hours after Mutua’s call to Kenyans to consider employment opportunities in Canada read in part.
The IRCC urged Kenyans and individuals with intentions of moving to Canada to obtain accurate information by visiting the official IRCC website at http://Canada.ca/immigration.
Yesterday, Mutua said that the Kenyan government had reached an agreement with Canada to provide job opportunities for Kenyans.
Handling of government communication by the president William Ruto’s administration, shifting of diplomatic and foreign engagement channel from the Foreign Affairs Ministry to the Office of the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and directly to respective government ministries has caught the attention of the international community and local career diplomats which contradicts the international norms as outlined under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
Recently, Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’oei was forced to denounce a tweet by Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria who called for bombing of Khartoum in the congoing Sudan crisis.
“The personal views expressed by Hon. Moses Kuria do not represent government policy on this complex and challenging issue. We continue to work with all parties towards peaceful resolution of the Sudan crisis.” Sing’oei said.
