The Deputy Commandant of the Anti-Stock Theft Unit was yesterday among the six senior police officers killed in a fierce exchange of fire between them bandits in Laikipia West.
Four other officers were seriously injured during the shoot out with the bandits Kamwenje, Laikipia West.
The deputy commandant together with the senior officer in charge of operations, who also died had led a contingent of officers to flush out a group of grazers who had invaded the ranch.
A senior police officer in the area said the injured had been airlifted to nairobi.
Police have over the past months been battling to evict hundreds of local herders who have invaded private ranches in Laikipia in search of pasture due to the dry spell.
Elsewhere, shock engulfed employees of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) in Mombasa when the body of one of their lawyers, Jared Ratemo was found dumped along Mombasa road, near the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi.
Ratemo, who is based in Mombasa, is believed to have been abducted and later strangled, before the body was dumped near JKIA. Police are now investigating the circumstances and motive of the murder.
