KDF under EACRF troops in DRC clear Mulimbi-Kabizo road after landslide blockade
The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops operating under the aegis of the East African Community Regional Force (EACRF), together with Médecins Sans Frontières and locals in Tongo, Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have cleared Mulimbi-Kabizo road that was temporarily rendered impassible following landslide occasioned by heavy downpour.
The joint collective effort facilitated emergency medical evacuation and movement of goods and services to and from Goma, promoting social economic development of the region.
“EACRF appreciates the collective response and remains committed to a citizen-centric approach to security by collaborating with state and non-state actors for sustainable peace and stability in Eastern DRC.” An update by the peace keeping mission force read in part.
Last month, the troops deployed in Kibumba thwarted a possible attack within their area of operation by a group of armed men suspected to be members of a local armed group.
They have since enhanced patrols within the areas to deter any further threats, especially to the local population who have since been sensitized to continue with their normal activities.
