The visiting German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has today toured the Olkaria geothermal station in Naivasha and expressed Germany commitment to will exploit the potentiality in Kenya’s energy sector.
Scholz said his country will invest in the country’s geothermal sector.
He said he was impressed by Kenya’s commitment in ensuring the world attains clean energy goals.
“Kenya and Germany have entered into climate and development partnership in supporting Kenya achieve 100 percent renewable energy supply and also support Kenya adaption to climate change.” Scholz said.
He added that Germany will aid in production of green hydrogen and fertilizer production.
He was accompanied by Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir who said that President William Ruto is committed in ensuring Kenya achieves clean energy.
He said climate change has affected the country greatly.
“We have promised to achieve 100 percent green energy by 2030.” Chirchir noted.
Chirchir said hydro power has been insufficient with Kenya spending a lot in buying energy from Ethiopia.

Following President Ruto’s recent visit to Germany, the two countries have agreed to partner in many areas of mutual interest.
