The outgoing Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Robert Kibochi yesterday bid the Kenya Air Force farewell while he made a transitional visit to KAF at Moi Air Base (MAB) in Nairobi in keeping with the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) tradition.
He was accompanied by his successor, CDF General Francis Ogolla and Vice Chief of Defence Forces (VCDF) Lieutenant General Jonah Mwangi.
During the event, General Kibochi expressed his gratitude for their dedication in air operations not only in Kenya but within the region, the latest being evacuation of Kenyans from Sudan.
“I’m happy to be here, God has been faithful for the 44 years that I have served the nation. One time, I was here being handed over the responsibility of being the CDF, but today I’m handing it over to General Ogolla.” Kibochi observed.
“Kenya Air Force has shown its professionalism in air operations. I say this with a lot of pride.” He added.
He also highlighted plans in regards to the soldier centric approach to mission readiness.
This included soldiers’ remuneration, health care system, housing, training, and welfare for soldiers’ families.
“I will be handing over the flag this week to General Ogolla to continue from where I have left. But please give him all the support he needs. Working together is important, and it will make us a stronger team. What we have done together will continue propelling us in the future>” General Kibochi noted.
In his address, the Commander Kenya Air Force Major General John Omenda appreciated the outgoing CDF for the exemplary work he has done during his time in service and the support he has given the KAF fraternity.
“Serving for over 40 years is not an easy task. You have mentored and guided us, and I’m a proud beneficiary of all this. When you gave your vision ‘sharpening the arrowhead for mission readiness’, we as Kenya Air Force picked it up, and it has helped us give our soldiers the best.” Major General Omenda noted.
“We thank you for your patience, time, wisdom, and guidance. Go well, but we will keep you in our minds and hearts, and we will gladly invite you from time to time whenever the occasion allows.” Omenda added.
Among those present during the event were Deputy Commander KAF Brigadier Peter Githinji, formation commanders, senior officers, Defence Sergeant Major, and service members.
