At least six students from Mbihi Secondary School are feared dead after a SWAT Shuttle matatu they were traveling in crashed with a lorry head-on around Delamere Shop along the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway.
Five students are said to have perished on the spot while two others are un life support machine at the Naivasha Sub-County Hospital.
Three others are admitted to the same facility with multiple fractures. Some are said to have also suffered deep tissue injuries.
The 11-seater shuttle collided head on with an oncoming lorry travelling in the opposite direction.
“The Matatu driver was trying to overtake a long queue of vehicles when collided with the truck.” A source said.
He said the driver of the vehicle was also hospitalised but in stable condition.
The bodies were removed to Naivasha Sub-County Hospital morgue while the vehicles were towed to Naivasha Police Station.
An eyewitness said he had counted bodies of six students who were travelling to Nairobi.
Schools across the country will close this week for two weeks as the first term ends.
This is the latest fatal crash on the roads amid increasing cases of road accidents associated to reckless driving and speeding.
The crash came barely 24 hours after four people perished at Mau Summit along the Eldoret- Nakuru Highway when the bus they were travelling in rolled.
