The Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said the newly built Embu Moi Stadium in Embu county that will host this year’s Madaraka Day is nearing completion ahead of the national event.
Speaking during a physical site visit earlier today, the DP said he is pleased with the progress so far noting that the stadium is 65 per cent complete and would be ready for the June 1, 2023 Madaraka celebrations.
“I am happy with the construction progress of this stadium. I am certain that in six weeks’ time, the stadium should be ready for handover. I will come back for the final inspection and I expect the contractor to handover the stadium.” The DP noted.
Gachagua also visited the proposed Embu Njugiri International Sports Centre, a facility that features various amenities that will constitute a world-class stadium.
The Deputy President also interacted with traders at Embu town market.
The government plans to build a new four-storey market in the town.
“We will start the construction of the storey market soon.” Gachagua affirmed.
The DP also pleaded with the traders to pave the way for the construction of the market saying they will be prioritised in the distribution of new stalls.
The Deputy President also instructed the contractors to employ local youth as well as acquiring construction materials locally.
