Police in Sipili Township have recovered 120 bags of suspected stolen government-subsidised fertiliser believed to have been destined for re-sale in Laikipia West Constituency.
The fertiliser was recovered from Blessed Agrovet in Sipili Township.
Two suspects believed to be part of the wider racket dealing with stolen fertiliser identified as Francis Githiora aged 41 and his accomplice Sarah Murugi aged 38 years have since been apprehended.
“Yesterday March 8, 2023, afternoon, officers from Sipili and Nga’arua Police Stations and led by Sub County Police Commander Kirima Sub-County acting on a tip off from members of public raided At the said agrovet, police recovered one hundred and twenty (120) 50kg bags of government subsidised fertiliser suspected to be destined for re-sale. One motor vehicle, make Isuzu Dmax which was used for transportation was impounded and detained at Sipili Police Station, while the exhibits are kept at Nga’arua Police Station.” An update by police headquarters, Vigilance House reads in part.
They are being detained at Sipili Police Station pending arraignment tomorrow.
The recovery was conducted yesterday a sting operation by officers drawn from Sipili and Nga’arua Police Stations who were acting on a tip off from members of public.
