The Commander Kenya Navy (KN), Major General Jimson Mutai yesterday hosted members of the Departmental Committee on Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations of the National Assembly at the Kenya Navy headquarters in Mombasa.
The Committee started its visit by paying a courtesy call to Commander KN in his office.
During courtesy call discussions on ways to enhance force posture and streamline the Ministry of Defence 2023 budget policy were held.
Committee chairman Nelson Koech who also doubles as Belgut Member of Parliament (MP) Hon Nelson Koech was briefed on the organisation, roles and functions of the Kenya Navy and how they execute operations in response to contemporary maritime threats to safety and security in our territorial seas.
After the briefing, the delegation visited the Kenya Navy Fleet where it was given a familiarization tour on board Kenya Navy Ship (KNS) Jasiri and a short sea trip.
At the Kenya Shipyard Limited (KSL), the committee was briefed on the different operations and capabilities of the Shipyard and thereafter witnessed the midlife refit of KNS Shupavu.
The visit was part of a two-day induction workshop for Parliamentary Committee on Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations aimed at apprising the members of the on duties undertaken by the Ministry of Defence in defending and protecting the nation.
Present during the visit was the Vice Chief of Defence Forces Lieutenant General Francis Ogolla, senior officials from the Ministry of Defence and Kenya Navy Senior officers.
