Police in Mombasa have banned all unauthorized political gatherings at night as campaign for the August 8 polls intensify.
Kisauni Deputy county commissioner Joshua Marete warned that those who will not abide by the government provisions will personally be held accountable.
This is even as concerns emerge that some Mombasa politicians have taken it upon themselves to engage their electorates during the night without any security enhancement.
He termed night campaigns as illegal, insecure and a recipe for chaos.
The administrator made the remarks while addressing the first security meeting attended by all Nyali aspirants held at the Mkomani show grounds.
“We are aware some of politicians are doing night gatherings, this is not allowed and is against the law, if we get you then we will declare it as an illegal meeting and you will face the full force of the law,” said Marete.
Marete added the police will not offer security to any door to door campaign that has no police notification cautioning the politicians against putting lives of their electorates at risk.
