Police imposter Joshua Waiganjo has been acquitted of robbery with violence charges by a Nakuru court because of lack of sufficient evidence.
Mr Waiganjo had been charged that on August 16, 2012, in Kikopey when he masqueraded as an Assistant commissioner of police violently robbed Stephen Kimani off his lorry and mobile phone, both valued Sh 4 million.
The complainant Stephen Kimani who had testified in court claimed that Waiganjo who was in company of two other people stopped his lorry on his way to Nakuru ordered him out and changed the registration number threatening him of dire consequences if he ever reported the matter.
Waiganjo during his defense hearing had told the court he bought the vehicle which is claimed by Mr Kimani in Embu county way back in 2007 and adding that he had evidence of the log book and sale agreement to prove his case.
According to him a fraction of police officers who were not pleased with his actions at the time he was in service used the motor vehicle in dispute to get back at him by framing him with the charges.
Chief Magistrate Bernard Mararo in reading his judgement set free Waiganjo saying that the state had failed to provide enough evidence to sustain his conviction adding that the lorry he is accused of stealing does not exist in the KRA records.
