A suspected chicken thief was lynched by members of the public and his accomplice escaped death by a whisker at Bagao village in Ainamoi Sub-County.
The deceased was said to be a member of a gang that had been terrorizing the villagers stealing chickens and other people’s property for a long time.
On Wednesday night, the late suspect identified as Wesley Chepkwony, 26, had broken into a chickens’ house belong to one of the villagers and stole four chickens. Following the theft the villagers gathered and decided to storm the suspect’s house and upon searching, the chickens’ owner identified his four chickens inside Chepkwony’s house.
The angry mob then descended on the deceased with all manner of crude weapons killing him on the spot and later set his body on fire. The deceased’s accomplice who was with him managed to escape and fled for his dear life.
The members of the public later alerted Ainamoi Location Chief Richard Bett over the incident. He rushed to the scene and informed the police about the matter who later took the charred remains of Chepkwony’s body to the Kericho Level Four Hospital Mortuary.
Bett revealed that the police have mounted a manhunt for Chepkwony’s accomplice who escaped during the incident.
