United Democratic Alliance (UDA) nominated Senator Karen Nyamu is facing imminent ouster and might lose her seat after the party’s disciplinary committee issued summons following complaints over a dramatic altercation with popular musician Samidoh during his Dubai concert.
In a letter dated December 19,2022, chairperson of the committee Charles Njenga says the incident which was captured in a video has brought shame to the party which nominated her to Senate.
“Your conduct and mannerism as exhibited in that incident has brought shame, disrepute and lowered the dignity of the party which nominated you to the office of Senator,” the letter read.
“Article 73 of the Constitution of Kenya as read together with the Code of Conduct of the party and your oath of office delineate with clarity the expected conduct of a member of the party who has been afforded the opportunity to serve in public office to represent the party at the Senate and the general public,” the letter added.
In a video that circulated online, Nyamu was seen having an altercation with Samidoh’s wife after forcefully sitting on his lap during a concert held in Dubai over the weekend.
The move prompted security guards at the concert to remove her from the stage.
“In the said incident which is well captured on video that has been widely circulated in both mainstream and social media, your conduct and mannerism as exhibited in that incident has brought shame, disrepute and lowered the dignity of the party which nominated you to the office of Senator,” the letter read in part.
“Further, be informed that if the complaints against you as herein above specified are proved at the hearing, the consequences thereof are as provided in the Party Constitution,” it added.
The party also outlined that Nyamu could appear in person before the committee or with an advocate of the High Court.
