Celebrated Kenyan female rally driver Maxine Wahome has been released on a Sh100,000 cash bail after allegedly assaulting her boyfriend on Jamhuri Day.
Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi released Wahome on bail after rejecting the Prosecution’s request to continue detaining her for two weeks pending completion of Investigations.
The magistrate dismissed the application by the state to detain her saying there were no compelling reasons to detain the suspect in police custody.
The police had sought 14 days to continue detaining the Wahome until the condition of the boyfriend Asad Khan aka Kalulu also a rally driver improves.
Ochoi ordered her to appear before the investigating officer at Kilimani Police station every Monday until the investigations are completed.
According to the prosecutors, Khan is still unconscious and in critical condition at the high-dependency unit at Avenue hospital.
“The complainant Khan is admitted at High Dependency Unit in critical condition with serious deep cuts on the right ankle, ” said state prosecutor James Gachoka.
The investigating officer told the court she was arrested Thursday at their apartment after the boyfriend’s brother made a report of an assault to the police.
The court heard that during the arrest, the police found a lot of blood in the house and broken glasses.
