Immediate former President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to resign as the chairman of Azimio One Kenya Coalition Council.
Sources revealed that its governing council has accepted the retired president’s request.
Uhuru’s decision to step back as chairman was to focus on his new role as peace envoy.
Jubilee vice-chair David Murathe, one of Uhuru’s closest allies, insisted that President Kenyatta was not hanging his boots yet as Jubilee Party leader.
“Uhuru will not quit as Jubilee Party leader; he will now focus his energies on revamping the party,” Murathe said.
The revelation comes at a time when some Jubilee politicians including former Gatundu North MP Wanjiku Kibe resigned from the party recently.
Some Jubilee Party leaders have openly blamed their association with Azimio for their election loss, and have stepped back from its core activities.
Jubilee’s director of elections Kanini Kega however said that the party’s top leadership is strategising on how to make the party vibrant and appealed to members not to exit.
