Around 20,000 Kenyans from all walks of life flocked the Nyayo Stadium gates in Nairobi as early as six am to mark the country’s 59th Jamhuri Day celebrations.
At some point, police officers were forced to control large crowds as they attempted to enter the already packed venue.
The ICT themed event was a beehive of activities from consecration, presentation, and trooping of presidential and regimental colors displayed by the Kenyan forces, to elaborate parades mounted by different Kenyan troops and students displaying the Kenyan flag.
The military was dressed in green combat attire and walked around ensuring that security was a priority during the celebrations.
The main stage arena was decorated with the Kenya national flag colours- black, white, red and green.
Black and red seats for the VIP and invited delegates were arranged systematically.
The celebration marking 59 years since the country became a republic saw young and old entertainers making way to the presentation platform.
President William Ruto arrived at the stadium at around 10am and presided over the first trooping of the color ceremony for the 23 Mechanised Infantry Battalion (23 MIB) since he became the Commander in Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
The “Trooping of the Colours” involves the showcase of presidential and regimental symbols by the national military.
