A father and his son were today morning killed when suspected Al-Shabaab militants attacked a vehicle they were driving between Jabibar and Bamboo along the Rhamo-Elwak route in Mandera North.
Three others who were on board sustained serious injuries.
The attack happened earlier today.” A senior police officer said.
The renewed attacks by the insurgents in the area comes days after the terrorists stole a four-wheel drive car belonging to a Mandera resident leased by a local agency, Action Against Hunger- operating in Takaba for a medical campaign.
The humanitarian aide workers were attacked between Elram and Falama areas south of Mandera.
At the time, only one occupant was on board while transporting the measles vaccine to Falama Health Centre in Mandera South.
Currently, security reinforcement has been deployed to help track down the militants believed to have already crossed the porous Kenya-Somalia border.
The three who were injured included National police reservists attached to Jabibar police post.
The NPR officers who were heading to Gari village are nursing injuries at Rhamo Sub-County Hospital, police said.
The driver who was on board the car is still missing.
