Azimio One Kenya Coalition led by the three co-principals Raila Odinga, Narc Kenya Leader Martha Karua and Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka have today launched the grand people’s engagement forums at the Kamukunji grounds in Nairobi.
In attendance were thousands of Azimio supporters in honor of the call by the coalition’s August 9, 2022 polls flagbearer Raila Odinga.
Odinga issued a list of demands to President William Ruto which include putting pressure on the government to institute measures to reduce cost of basic commodities i.e, maize flour, fuel, school fees and electricity.
“We are calling for a consultative meeting to address Azimio La Umoja’s supporters on the way forward,” observed Raila.
The coalition questioned where the government acquired the Sh50 billion Hustler fund kitty.
Those in attendance lamented of turbulent economic times, claiming that the general publics including the youths have continued to suffer despite having finished their studies.
“It is sad that numerous students have graduated but lack jobs since they lack people in ‘high offices’ to vouch for them,” said Odinga
Other leaders who attended the rally included Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) deputy party leader Wycliffe Oparanya, DAP-Kenya Party Leader Eugene Wamalwa, Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna, Ugunja MP serving as the National Assembly Minority leader Opiyo Wandayi, various Azimio MPs from Nairobi among them Makadara MP George Aladwa and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino made their way to the rally.
Cabinet Secretary for Interior Kithure Kindiki together with the National Police Service kept the promise of providing the coalition with adequate security during the public consultation rallies.
“In respect of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 under Article 37 which provides that every person has the right to peaceful gathering, demonstration and picketing, the law further provides under Article 33(3) of the Constitution in exercising the freedom of expression, every person shall respect the right of others,” read a letter shared by the police service.
